Teaching Critical Thinking in the Social Science Classroom is designed to support all teachers of Caribbean History, Geography, Social Studies and Education for Democratic Citizenship in promoting crtical thinking among their students. By the end of this course teachers will understand the importance of teaching critical thinking and acquire strategies they can use to get students more engaged with the content and develop mastery of concepts and ideas in the various curriculums. The end goals are to improve student performance in the criteria of Application, Evaluation and Problem Solving and more importantly to prepare students to be able to think critically and devise solutions when faced with issues and challenges in the society.
The structure of the course is self paced and provides flexibility so that teachers are able to balance professional development (PD) and their workloads. The approach will be constructivist in nature so that teachers determine what their PD needs are engage in activities that meet those needs.
